Shepherd: Invite and Intentionally Disciple: The days of posting needs on social media or in the bulletin and expecting a response are long past. We have to be intentional: take time to listen and get to know the gifts and deepest desires of those around us. That deepest desire is to have an impact for good. We have to invite and disciple (guide)others toward the filfillment of that ultimtae desire to do something that is bigger than ourselves.
Steward: Encourage and help others flourish: Oftetimes when we see the amazing gifts of others we can start to compare and feel less ourselves. We wonder if we will soon be seen as uneeded or less capable if we support and encourage others. We have to avoid the temptation of being intimidated by the gifts of others. When we each share our gifts and encourage one another in the use of those gifts, we have the greatest possible impact.
Servant: This work is beyond us all: The main task of leadership is building relationships that make accomplishment of the work at hand possible. The tasks that are the most challenging and the most worthwhile are beyond the skills of any one person. As a result, when we start an important task we take the risk of it being finished by someone else and the one who started it not being remembered. This is the leaders call to humble service. Do it anyway, our legacy is not on this earth!
Subsidiarity: Keep the Focus on Relationships: Those who have the best relationship with those who are being served should have the most input on what is done. Leadership is not about control, but about teaching and guiding others in the ability to excercise and develop their own ability to lead and serve others well.
Solidarity: Work Together with Others: The Holy Spirit works in a numbers of ways. Prayerfully consider and look for ways to "yes" to the work He is doing through others. "Doing it my way" will reach a number of people who are like me, working with others and supporting a number of apporaches will reach more.
